An Emerging Relationship: Comverse and LTE

By Orly Rapaport, Head of Technology Strategy

This is where Comverse comes in – to facilitate the operator’s entrance and help preserve their central role as the LTE ecosystem evolves

Long Term Evolution (LTE) technology, the 4th generation of radio technologies designed to increase the capacity and speed of mobile networks, is moving steadily from the hype stage to the beginnings of deployment and trials among selected operators. True to Comverse’s history and commitment to provide operators with new software and applications which can generate additional revenue streams, we intend to address this emerging 4G technology.

As LTE will support primarily mobile broadband data in the beginning stages, operators need to become involved early to maintain their centrality in light of the easier entrance of Internet players to become the dominant communications providers. This is where Comverse comes in – to facilitate the operator’s entrance and help preserve their central role as the LTE ecosystem evolves.

In addition, the Evolved IP Core Network (EPC) will enable seamless mobility that will contribute to the user experience with transparent handover from device to device and across all access networks. There are many ways to leverage this enhanced mobile experience of communication continuity, and Comverse is exploring these in all of its domains: value added services, billing and IP Communications.

For example, as LTE/EPC enables rich multimedia applications over all access technologies in a series of sessions over fixed and mobile networks, Comverse can apply its communications services for users’ consistently high-quality enjoyment. While moving from home to office, users will not notice the network handover and will benefit from a positive experience whether using messaging, telephony or video services, regardless of device – including PC, netbook, mobile or fixed phone.

To date, the promise of higher bandwidth and low latency service for a more enhanced mobile broadband experience for consumers and enterprises seems to be on its way to becoming a reality for future deployments. Comverse is exploring the optimal ways in which operators can exploit their underlying network technology to provide subscribers with the best experience for next-generation services.
